Mixtape :: The House Chants On Without Us

The House Chants on Without Us

Seeing how its been almost 6 months since I sent my last mix out, I had a lot to choose from. These 20 songs have been on a constant rotation for me over the past few weeks & months. Hopefully everyone can find at least a song or two in here that’s new to them. Download the entire mix or individual songs after the break.

DEN ✈ LAX ✈ DEN ✈ SLC ✈ DEN

Coming off two weeks of shooting two Oakley Women brand ambassadors. The first was shot around Los Angeles at some awesome locations, including a famous recording studio, a grungy venue, and a day on the water in Hermosa Beach. After a few relaxing days in Laguna visiting Hosh, it was off to Powder Mountain, Utah to shoot our second ambassador. It wasn’t long until I missed the sunshine, production assistants, and craft services of Los Angeles.  Utah was definitely a bit more chaotic, but in the end, both shoots were a huge success.

Empire State of Mind

Empire State of Mind

I’ve spent the past few years finding any excuse imaginable to visit New York City : from a summer in the city for classes at NYU to a weekend Yankees series.  Maybe this is a bit cliche, but stepping into that city is unlike any environment anywhere else in the world.  There’s an energy and an optimism about that place that I can’t describe, yet I feel it every time I’m there.  Coming back this time was no different, though this time, I was viewing the city from a different lens. In every previous trip I was looking to satisfy, as Dean calls it, my pleasure sensor.  This time I hoped to look at the city as a place that I could potentially one day live. What I found what was I believe to be a microcosm for living in that city :: I witnessed everything from Saturday night plans to dreams of the last few years fall apart.  But simultaneously, I saw new plans emerge in the short time I was there. I look forward to the coming months.

iPhone photography

IMG_0619

For me, the cellphone camera has evolved from something I would never use (Blackberry Curve and anything before) to a backup in case I forgot my regular camera (iPhone and iPhone 3G) to a trusted tool in my camera repertoire (iPhone 3Gs). I’ve loaded my camera with a variety of applications such as Pano, QuadCamera, CameraBag, AutoStitch, PS Mobile, and CameraKit, sometimes using them independently, and sometimes combining them.  I sometimes find a single version of the picture I am happy with, other times I find myself saving 3 or 4 versions of the same photo with different treatments.

The iPhone camera is no substitute for my Nikon D70.  Or even better, my Canon AE-1.  But I am extremely pleased with its ability to provide an additional style to my photography.
